- alphabetical word lists or search function
- includes pages with grammar explanations
- sometimes includes multiple spellings based on different writing systems
Launched in 2014, the mission of LouisianaCreoleDictionary.com is to provide easy access to the Louisiana Creole language and to make available tools which cultivate and promote the oral and written use of the language. The site has a search function for looking up specific words, as well as alphabetically sorted lists and pages devoted to the alphabet and grammar.
There are sometimes multiple spellings of words because the page is working off of two different systems for writing in Louisiana Creole - one popularized by the Dictionary of Louisiana Creole (Valdman et al., 1998 - currently out of print) and a system created by Dr. Christophe Landry and his colleagues that is often more associated with the name kouri-vini by present-day activists.
You may notice a few clerical errors here and there (for example, the Creole column was mistakenly labeled English) but this is a free site run by volunteers and we think it's a resource worth checking out if you want to learn Creole/Kouri-vini!
