French Tables, or
les Tables Françaises, are independent groups that meet up regularly to speak French together (or Creole in the case of Creole Tables). Each group is different. One group may meet once a month, another once a week. One group may just be conversational - everyone sits down and eats lunch together and converses freely - and others may be structured as a sort of free 'class' (with many variations in between).
Since the start of COVID19, many tables have either been put on hold or switched to an online format using platforms like Zoom, though some continue to meet in person. These meetups are an ideal way to practice actually speaking and listening in a real life context. Almost all tables are open to any level of French, provided the person is not interfering with the spirit of the table by constantly switching to English and asking for translations. (People are there to speak
French, after all!)
