This free document is an exercise using the Sweet Crude song ‘La Cheminée’ to practice pronouns and the verb avoir in Louisiana French. Part of a series by La Relève Louisiane pairing popular songs with grammar explanations, the 3-page document first reviews subject pronouns (I, you, she, etc.) and the conjugation for avoir - to have.

After a few fill-in-the-blank questions, it then puts what you’ve reviewed in context using the song. You can check your answers to the fill-in-the-blank questions using the answer key at the bottom of page 2, and by the end of the exercise you will have learned a new song in Louisiana French. Even if you’re only ready to sing it in the shower, music is a great tool for practicing pronunciation!
